Agility

Agility is a fun sport for dogs and handlers to get fit together. Dogs are required to learn fun obstacles such as hoops, tunnels, weaving poles, scramble, dog walk, table, see saw and jumps.

Be aware that a few breeds may not be suitable for agility.

Some handlers and dogs may only decide to come to training for the fun of it all… while the serious teams can move into the competition at 18 months of age.

A 5 - 7 week beginner's course is held twice per year March and September (if numbers warrant). Dogs need basic obedience with a good recall. If you are interested drop in on a Friday night and chat with us.

BEGINNER AGILITY COURSE

The class will run for 5 - 7 weeks with introduction (dog-free) night, being mandatory at 8.00 pm and thereafter each week on Friday nights from 8 .00 pm to 9.00 pm if the weather permits.

This is an intensive course so you cannot afford to miss any weeks and you will need to have a couple of items of equipment of your own to practice on at home (nothing expensive).eg , some weave poles, a cardboard box, some cones and a  plank. We will let you know how to make these or where you can get them from.

Your dog will need to be assessed first and we set aside some Friday nights at 8pm for this to happen.

Course cost is around $120.00, which includes each week’s ground fees. (price subject to change)

You must be a member to participate. Annual Membership/joining fee $55.00 single $60.00 family.

Agility is lots of fun for dogs but it does require good focus and self-control. There will be other dogs running off leash nearby; therefore your dog needs to be able to work off-leash with you in a highly distracting environment. They need to come when called and be able to stay in place for at least 10 seconds with you at a distance of about 5 metres. You also need to be able to reward your dog with treats and play, preferably tug games. There is no minimum age limit to start training as long as your dog has these skills.

If you are wanting to have a look at agility, come down on a Friday night 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm for a chat.

We welcome visitors (who do not have beginner dogs) and offer two visits prior to becoming a member of our club.  The applicable ground fee will be payable per person per night.

We will need to know that you are coming so please contact us to let us know.
